The History of the Building Plan
Around the year 2000, several Friends of the East Bend Library decided a newer facility was needed due to overcrowded conditions, lack of adequate parking, and no space to expand the collection. Of course, there was also the consideration that the current building was built in the early 1900s.
A space needs study was conducted to determine exactly what the library's community needs were and how much space it would take to accommodate those needs.
Tentative plans were drawn and long-range plans developed. To help with fund raising efforts, an East Bend Public Library Building Committee was established. This group sought and received 501(c)(3) designation so that contributors could count their gifts as tax deductible.
Since that time many members of the community have served on the committee and given their endorsement to the project.
The committee is currently working with a local architect to refine the design and update the construction costs.
There is trememdous excitement around the project as efforts move forward and more and more members of the community become a part of the project.
Currently, approximately $525,000 has been raised or pledged. Most of the money is from small donations of $25 to $50. The committee plans to begin the building in 2010.
